A special service took place on 31 May to mark the installation of the Very Rev Roxanne Campbell as the new Provost of St Paul’s Cathedral, Dundee.
The service was attended by members of the cathedral congregation and the diocese, as well as invited guests from across the Scottish Episcopal Church and civic Scotland, including the Lord and Lady Provost of Dundee and other local representatives.
The Rt Rev Andrew Swift, Bishop of Brechin described the day as “a wonderful occasion.” Writing after the service, Provost Roxanne said: “Thank you to everyone who was involved in the Service of Institution and Installation, and to all who came to share in the celebration. It was a truly joyful and moving occasion. I’m especially grateful to those who worked so hard behind the scenes – the flower arrangers, the cleaners and tidiers, those who set up the space and catered for the reception, the stunningly beautiful music, the servers and sacristy team, our readers and welcomers, those who served refreshments, and everyone who stayed behind to help clear up. Your efforts made the day not only run smoothly but feel filled with grace and warmth.
“Thank you also for the kind messages, thoughtful cards, and generous gifts that my family and I have received. Neil, Isabella, and I have been made to feel so welcome, cared for, and deeply loved. We are delighted to be rooted in the remarkable community that is St Paul’s for this next season.
“In my sermon last week, I reflected briefly on how much important work lies ahead of us. But we don’t face that work alone. We will walk forward together, grounded in the love, faithfulness, and spirit of this community – a community already so full of life, hope, and grace.”
The Rev Dr Jenny Holden, who went through training with Roxanne, preached the sermon on the visitation of Mary to Elizabeth. Speaking about the newly installed Provost, Dr Holden said: “Roxanne will love you fiercely, nurture you, celebrate you, but you have called Roxanne here to be your Provost, not because she will mollycoddle you and let you coast, but to challenge you, to encourage you and live out your calling together in sharing God’s love and light to this city of innovation in 2025 and beyond.”
The Lord Provost of Dundee, Cllr Bill Campbell, wrote that the service was “a joyous occasion which was followed by a reception in St Roque’s Hall” and went on to offer: “Congratulations to Roxanne and I wish her every success in her role.”
