Tribute paid after death of Lord Wallace

The Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church, the Most Rev Mark Strange has paid tribute to Lord Jim Wallace, following the sad news of his death, aged 71.

Bishop Mark said: “I am deeply sadden to learn of the death of Lord Wallace, a greatly respected political and church leader who served Scotland in both capacities faithfully for many years.

“As Moderator of the Church of Scotland, he brought good counsel and wisdom to ecumenical matters. It was an honour to stand alongside him when we signed the Interfaith Declaration at COP26 in Glasgow, and then again one month later when we both jointly signed the historic Saint Andrew Declaration between the Church of Scotland and the Scottish Episcopal Church.

“Both declarations were rooted in building relationships which would bring people together, something Jim had encouraged throughout his life and made possible with his unwavering sense of fairness and his generous spirit.

“His passing will be mourned in churches across the land, and across the political spectrum.

“On behalf of the Scottish Episcopal Church I offer condolences to Rosemary and his family, and to all in the Church of Scotland. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.”
